
Joe routinely works on high-exposure, high-profile, and complex litigation matters. He has significant experience in a wide variety of practice areas for both plaintiffs and defendants, including bodily injury & wrongful death, premises liability, Medical Malpractice & Nursing Home, construction, automotive & trucking, environmental and toxic tort, employment, insurance litigation, business litigation, local government litigation, civil rights, administrative law, real estate litigation, and more. Joe has successfully tried bench and jury trials in both state and federal courts. He also has significant deposition experience, has successfully briefed and argued numerous dispositive motions, has worked on appellate cases in both state and federal courts, and has conducted or participated in numerous internal investigations. Joe also has significant alternative dispute resolution experience, having successfully participated in many mediations and arbitrations on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.
Joe graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2013. He received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2016 where he was a merit scholar recipient and member of the Dean’s List. In law school, Joe participated in the Entrepreneurial Legal Services Clinic and Intellectual Property Clinic, where he gained valuable experience working directly with pro bono clients.
Prior to joining HME, Joe primarily worked in insurance defense but also gained valuable general litigation experience. Joe joined HME in 2025 where he litigates cases throughout the country, including various state and federal courts and courts of appeals. Joe’s practice with HME is unique in that he frequently represents both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation. Working on both sides allows Joe to bring a unique perspective to his cases. He understands the goals and strategies of the other side and works to strengthen his clients’ position by anticipating the opposition’s next move. He understands what the strengths and weaknesses of a given case are, and, importantly, how to value a case. Joe’s dedication to his clients and achieving a successful outcome on their behalf spans from the initial client intake process all the way through trials and appeals.
Outside of work, Joe enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with family & friends.
